Thousands protest in Belgrade against the Serbian president

SANAA, Jan. 20 (Saba) - More than 10,000 Serbs demonstrated Saturday in the Serbian capital Belgrade to protest against the rule of President Aleksandar Vučić and his ruling Serbian Progressive Party in protests for the eighth week in a row.

Protesters called for freedom of information as a precondition for free and fair elections.

The demonstration was organized by the Alliance for Serbia, an opposition group of 30 parties and organizations.

The demonstrators chanted slogans against the Serbian president and his party and demanded the "evil regime" to leave. Similar protests were attended by former protesters.

Earlier, President Aleksandar Vučić said he would not bow to opposition demands for election reform or increased freedom of the media "even if five million people go down the street," but said he was ready to test his party's popularity in early elections.
