Iranian Foreign Ministry: The presence of US forces in Syria was wrong from the start
[15/ January/2019]
SANAA, Jan. 15 (Saba) - Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasimi said Tuesday that the presence of US forces in Syria was wrong from the start and is not justified.

"The arrival of the Americans to Syria was a mistake and a futile and unjustifiable decision and they must leave, otherwise they will be forced to leave from there based on the facts of history and the resistance of the people," Qasimi told a news conference.

Qasimi said that the victories achieved by the Syrian Arab Army and its allies caused great anger in the entity of the Zionist occupation, reiterating that his country does not have a military presence in Syria and said: "We have been invited by the Syrian government to carry out advisory missions to combat terrorism in Syria."

On January 19, US President Donald Trump announced the start of the withdrawal of US troops from Syria and their return to the United States, but Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Friday that Moscow had the impression that the United States was seeking to back down.

On the other hand, Qasimi called on the United States to draw lessons from its successive defeats as a result of its policies in the region.

"We do not attach any importance to the American threats and we will not be affected by them," he said, adding that Iran would continue its strategic policy of peaceful coexistence with neighboring countries.

He pointed out that US officials claim that they are able through their policies in violation of international standards to achieve their illegal objectives that lead to destabilization in the region.

Iranian President Hassan Rowhani said on Saturday that his country was not afraid of the plots against it and currently has the best relations with its neighbors.
