SANAA, Dec. 13 (Saba) - Lebanese Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil said on Wednesday that his country was determined to form a new government despite obstacles, while Lebanese President Michel Aoun warned of a "catastrophe" if his efforts failed.
"The partnership between the president and the prime minister, together with national consensus, will inevitably lead to the formation of a new government despite all obstacles," Basil was quoted as saying at an investment conference in London.
Lebanese Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri, who is also attending the conference, said he was "always optimistic" in response to a question about the prospects for forming a new government after seven months of political wrangling.
In Beirut, Aoun said on Wednesday that efforts to resolve the crisis of forming the government will bear fruit over the next two days.
On Tuesday, Aoun said the difficulties facing the formation of the government could not be resolved "in the traditional way" between the prime minister-designate and other parties and that it was his duty to participate.
