SANAA, Nov. 17 (Saba) - US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo promised Ukraine to fight the German-Russian pipeline project,Nord stream 2, which undermines European security as saying.
"Ukraine has no greater friend than the United States," Pompeo was quoted as saying during an interview with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin in Washington.
"We will continue to work together to stop the Nord Stream 2 project, which belittles Ukraine's strategic and economic security and threatens to further undermine the sovereignty of European nations dependent on Russian gas," Pompeo told reporters.
"We do not want our European friends to become prey to this kind of political and economic manipulation that Russia is trying to do in Ukraine,' he added.
The North Stream 2 project is supposed to double gas delivery capabilities between Russia and Germany across the Baltic Sea without going through Poland and Ukraine.
According to Germany, which is supported by France and Austria, the project will allow a more stable and cheaper gas supply.
