Thailand lifts shipwrecks killing 47 Chinese tourists in July

SANAA, Nov. 17 (Saba) - Thailand said on Saturday that it had lifted the wreckage of a ship carrying 47 Chinese tourists which sank in July as part of an ongoing investigation into the cause of its sinking.


"The Phoenix ship is ​​a very important part of the evidence to determine the cause of the accident,"Tourist Police Bureau Deputy Chief, Major General Surachate Hakparn, told reporters told reporters.

"When the case is over, we will be able to restore the confidence of Chinese tourists," he said.

Phoenix sank in the high seas in July off the west coast of Phuket Island in Thailand with 101 people, including 12 crew members and 89 tourists, all but two from China.

The ship was carrying passengers on a trip to a small island for scuba diving.
