SANAA, Nov. 13 (Saba)- Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Eng. Abdulmalik al-Thawr said that Yemen's production of coffee will reach 50 thousand tons by 2025, equivalent to about one billion dollars.
The minister stressed that the ministry will implement a package of plans and programs to develop the cultivation and productivity of coffee, including supporting nurseries in coffee growing areas, providing soft loans to small farmers, coordinating with the private sector and beneficiary farmer to establish tanks to take benefit from the rainwater in irrigation of coffee trees.
Al-Thawr pointed out that the ministry is seeking to establish a specialized research center in the field of coffee, in line with the process of rehabilitation, training in the field of coffee cultivation and raising awareness of agricultural practices of cutting, weeding and pest control using integrated management methods, as well as the dissemination of modern technologies as the distribution of modern dryers and measuring devices Moisture in production areas and others.
He stressed the need to establish a mechanism for fixing prices of coffee products to encourage the coffee growers to expand the cultivation and productivity of this important cash crop.
