FM sends condolences to Iranian counterpart

SANA'A, Jan. 09 (Saba) - Foreign Minister Hisham Sharaf sent on Monday a cable of condolences to Iranian Foreign Minister Muhammad Javad Zarif on the death of former president Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani.

In the cable, Hishan Sharaf indicated to the role played by the deceased in enhancing Arab-Iranian relations on the basis of common interests, lauding its attitude rejecting the Saudi aggression against Yemen's land and people.

He expressed his sincere condolences to the deceased's family and Iranian people.

Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, the former president of Iran, died on Sunday at age 82. He died due to a heart attack in a Tehran hospital, according to the ISNA news agency.

Rafsanjani, a veteran cleric, a pillar of the Islamic Revolution and a leading politician, served in different positions in the post-1979 Islamic Revolution era. He served as president of Iran from 1989 to 1997.
