Gaza media warns of unprecedented repercussions of environmental, health disaster in northern Gaza Strip
[16/ April/2024]
GAZA April 16. 2024 (Saba) - The government media office in Gaza has said that the areas of the northern Gaza Strip are exposed to unprecedented health problems and environmental pollution, with mountains of waste accumulating, hundreds of temporary mass graves, and the rubble of homes in various areas.

Head of the government media office Salama Maarouf warned in a statement that this portends serious health and environmental repercussions for more than 700,000 people living in the Gaza and northern governorates.

The spread of waste is estimated at more than 75 thousand tons, while hundreds of thousands of tons of rubble and rubble of homes destroyed by the occupation are spread, according to the statement.

Maarouf explained that this waste has caused the spread of infectious diseases to thousands of citizens, especially hepatitis and skin diseases, and has become a fertile environment for the breeding of flies, mosquitoes, insects and harmful reptiles, in addition to its environmental impact due to citizens setting fire to it, which causes pollution with its harmful fumes.

He added a disastrous scene is spreading of hundreds of temporary mass graves, in which citizens were forced to bury their martyrs due to the inaccessibility of the Eastern Cemetery.

Maarouf said these graves are spread in the squares, what remains of the parks and gardens, and inside citizens’ private lands, and all of them lack environmental safety conditions.
