SANAA, Jan. 20 (Saba) - Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo is on trial in Madrid on Tuesday for tax evasion.

"After his application for videoconference was rejected, Ronaldo has to come to the courtroom north of the Spanish capital from 9 am (GMT)," Ronaldo's spokesman was quoted by AFP as saying.

The court is expected to issue a ruling on Ronaldo's fine and a two-year suspended sentence.

In Spain, those sentenced to up to two years' imprisonment shall be exempted from the penalty in the absence of precedents in their registry.

The financial fine to be paid by the former Real Madrid star is a result of an agreement between his lawyers and Spanish tax authorities.

Unless this agreement is reached, he will face the best football player in the world
 Five times the possibility of a severe fine of 28 million euros, and sentenced to imprisonment for three and a half years, according to the Association of specialists in the Ministry of Finance.

The deal led to the closure of the judicial case against the star who moved to Juventus in the summer of 2018 for about 100 million euros.

The Madrid Criminal Court has accused Ronaldo of tax evasion amounting to 14.7 million euros by setting up a fictional trading structure to hide profits for the period from 2011 to 2014.
