SANAA, Nov. 21 (Saba) - Unknown gunmen kidnapped an Italian volunteer in the coastal district of Kilifi in an attack that also wounded five people.
"The gang ... kidnapped a 23-year-old Italian woman and a volunteer in an African NGO , which is active in the region," the national police said on Wednesday, quoted by Reuters.
He added that the injured were taken to hospital and police were tracking the attackers.
Kenyan police have not disclosed whether the suspects were militants from the Islamist group al Shabaab based in neighboring Somalia and have launched deadly attacks in Kenya for years, including an attack on a shopping mall in Nairobi in 2013 that killed nearly 70 people.
Militants suspected to belong Islamist group al Shabaab have launched several attacks in recent months that killed soldiers from Kenya, but all took place in a province, north of Kilifi and on the border with Somalia.
