America has chosen the wrong way to impose sanctions, it will be defeated : Rohani
[14/November/2018]

SANAA, Nov.14 (Saba) - Iranian President Hassan Rowhani said Wednesday that the United States had chosen the wrong way to re-impose sanctions on his country and would be defeated.

Rohani was quoted by Tasnim news agency as saying "If they are honest and look for regional security, this is not the way," adding "If they are honest and respect the Iranian people as they allege, that is not the way."

"They have distorted their reputation even more in the world and in front of our people," he said. "It is clear to all that the unjust and cruel US sanctions will harm the people of our beloved country."

The United States re-imposed sanctions on Iran's oil sector on Nov. 5 as US President Donald Trump alleged that he sought to force the Islamic Republic of Iran to curb its nuclear programs and stop supporting proxy forces in Syria, Iraq, Lebanon and Yemen.

US national security adviser John Bolton said on Tuesday Washington intended to boost sanctions against Iran, adding: "We intend to impose them firmly."

Bolton repeated that the United States aims to reduce Iranian oil exports to zero.

"They thought they could stop Iranian oil completely, but they realized in recent days that this is not feasible or possible because of their internal issues and because of the price of oil," Rowhani added.

"The Americans have fully realized that we will sell our oil, we have many ways and means to sell oil so that their sanctions are not effective," he said.

Trump re-imposed sanctions after the United States pulled out of a nuclear deal signed by Tehran with world powers in 2015, before he came to power.

Other signatories - Germany, France, Britain, Russia and China - remain committed to it.

Iran has said it will respect the agreement as long as other powers maintain its economic advantages in the face of US pressure.

Iranian officials and independent analysts said last week that was likely Iran would to overcome the US oil sanctions storm and suffer a recession but would not hit the brink of economic collapse thanks to rising oil prices and deep divisions between the United States and other major powers.
