OCCUPIED AL-QUDS May 08. 2024 (Saba) -The Zionist newspaper "Haaretz" confirmed that the fighting in Rafah will not push towards the return of prisoners to the Palestinian resistance in Gaza, but rather will undermine the possibility of that happening.
The newspaper said in its editorial, on Wednesday, that “the only way to allow the return of prisoners from the Gaza Strip is to sign a deal with Hamas, even if its price is painful for Israel.”
The newspaper pointed out that the enemy’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, “prefers to threaten to occupy Rafah, rather than take Hamas’ approval (to the mediators’ proposal in the negotiations) and turn it into a deal to return everyone,” as the families of the prisoners are demanding.
Also, Haaretz pointed out that “no one was surprised when Netanyahu’s office reported that the war council decided to continue the operation in Rafah, with the aim of exerting military pressure on Hamas in order to push for the return of prisoners, and other war goals.”
At the same time, it expressed its “regret” because “Minister Benny Gantz (whose disagreements with Netanyahu have worsened) repeated this lie,” by saying that “the military operation in Rafah is an integral part of the ongoing Zionist efforts and its commitment to returning the prisoners and changing the security reality in the south,” it added.
The newspaper also confirmed that those who pay the price for this policy are the prisoners themselves, as the fighting claimed the lives of some of them and the fire of the occupation army, while those who remained alive are still at risk.
