RAMALLAH May 02. 2024 (Saba) - ActionAid International announced that about 500,000 jobs have been lost in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank as a result of the continued aggression since the seventh of last October.
The organization said in a statement issued on Thursday that the poverty and unemployment rate in the Gaza Strip has reached unprecedented levels, as at least 201,000 jobs have been lost.
These jobs account for two-thirds of Gaza's total workforce, according to the International Labour Organization, while prices of food and other basic items have soared.
It pointed out that almost all economic activities in the Gaza Strip have stopped, especially after the displacement of more than 85% of their homes.
In the West Bank, at least 306,000 jobs have been lost out of a third of the total workforce, permits for workers working within the 48 territories have been canceled, and dozens of new military checkpoints have been erected between towns and cities in the West Bank, preventing citizens from reaching their places of work.
