WASHINGTON May 01. 2024 (Saba) - The US Senate voted on Wednesday on a bill to ban imports of Russian uranium into the United States.
The Senate unanimously approved the bill, which had been previously passed by the House of Representatives. It will now be sent to President Joe Biden for his signature to become law.
Last December, the US House of Representatives passed a bill banning the import of low-enriched uranium from Russia.
In recent years, the United States has been trying to replace Russian fuel with high levels of low-enriched uranium to power its nuclear reactors.
In February, the US Department of Commerce stated that purchases of Russian uranium and other radioactive elements in 2023 exceeded those purchases for over a decade.
