[28/April/2024]

SANA'A April 28. 2024 (Saba) - The parliament Speaker ,Yahya Ali Al-Ra'i, expressed his thanks and appreciation to the academics & students protesting in a number of American and Western universities in solidarity with what the Palestinians are being exposed to in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories.

In the Council’s business session held today, Yahya Ali Al-Ra'i denounced the campaign of arrests and repression that targeted student demonstrators at universities by the American authorities.

He considered the attacks on students and academics at American universities a disgrace to the American administration.

He said, "The arbitrary measures taken by the American authorities reveal the falsity of the American claims that pay lip service to democracy, human rights, and freedom of opinion."

He expressed his regret for the situation of the Arab regimes that stand by and watch what is happening to the Palestinian people at a time when the American administration provides all support to the Zionist war criminals to wage a war of extermination against the Palestinians in Gaza Strip.

In today's session of the parliament, the members of the parliament condemned the crimes and violations committed by the aggression mercenaries against citizens in Taiz province, the latest of which was the crime of targeting populated areas, which led to the martyrdom of three women and two girls in Maqbanah District.

During the session attended by the Caretaker Minister of State for the Affairs of the Parliament and the Shura Council, Dr. Ali Abu Haliqa, the parliament heard clarifications from Agriculture and Irrigation Minister , Engineer Abdul-Malik Al-Thawr, regarding a number of violations and the granting of permits to allow the entry of pesticides whose indiscriminate use leads to an increase in the spread of cancer cases causing an increase in deaths.

He explained that a committee had previously been formed by the Presidency of the Republic to evaluate the performance of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Supreme Agricultural Committee and concluded by submitting a report on that.

For his part, Deputy Minister of Health and Population, Dr. Mutahar Al-Marouni, pointed out that the Ministry has prepared statistics on cancer cases spread throughout the provinces of the Republic, their types, and their areas of spread at the district level.

He pointed out that there are research and studies being conducted to find out the reasons, noting that there is an increase in the number of outbreaks from four thousand in 2015 to seven thousand in 2023, which requires unifying efforts to limit the exacerbation and spread of these risks and damages.

In the course of their discussions, the members of the parliament stressed that everyone must feel responsible in supporting issues that concern the lives of citizens.

They stressed the importance of holding those responsible for the release of these pesticides accountable, stressing the importance of strengthening oversight efforts, conducting tests on pesticides, and combating the entry or smuggling of these toxins into the country.

For his part, Vice President of the Council, Abdul Rahman Al-Jamai, pointed out the danger of these pesticides as they affect the lives of Yemeni society, and lead to an increase in the percentage of people infected with cancer and an increase in deaths.

The Council heard from a member of the parliament, Bassam Ali Al-Shater, a question directed by the Justice Minister in the caretaker government, Judge Nabil Al-Azani, about the non-implementation of some judicial rulings and decisions issued by the Specialized Criminal Court by the judicial receiver, and why the judicial receiver is not obligated as one of the components of the judicial authority by respecting, adopting, adhering to and implementing those provisions and decisions.

The smart Council member called for the presence of the Minister of Justice to answer the question at the earliest possible session in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution and the Council’s internal regulations.

In the same context, the parliament heard from Council Member Bassam Al-Shater a question directed to the Foreign Affairs Minister of the caretaker government, Engineer Hisham Sharaf, about the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ failure to recognize judicial rulings and decisions, especially those issued by the Specialized Criminal Court, and its failure to deal with it in approving powers of attorney , documents, and its demand for approval from the judicial receiver. To adopt these provisions and decisions as a more important condition than the provisions themselves for proceeding with the procedures for approving powers of attorney issued by their holders who are related to the cases that were pending before the court and in which final rulings and decisions were issued.

He requested the presence of the Foreign Affairs Minister to respond to the inquiries addressed to him at the earliest session in implementation of the provisions and texts of the Constitution.
